Both augmented and virtual reality has impacted many industries, and the automotive industry is no exception. There are many aspects of car design, production, and sales that can be made more efficient that will provide added value to both manufacturers and consumers. Today we will tell you about some of the many ways both AR and VR are being used in the automotive industry and show you that all of the benefits they provide are worth the investment.

AR is Making Car Designing More Efficient

When we look at the traditional way of designing cars, it involves a designer drawing out the design either manually or on a digital device. Manufacturers would then create a prototype to test how all of the components work in the real world. This process is not very efficient because of the manual processes involved and the number of investments required to test all of the components to find the right combination. Thanks to AR, manufacturers would not have to create prototypes since the 3D design of the vehicle can be projected onto the real world.

This means that engineers can mix and match components, simulate environments, and do pretty anything with the AR model that they could do with the physical one. Imagine all of the cost savings that can be realized since there is no longer a need to create these prototypes. This is one of the biggest reasons why AR automotive is taking off.

Using Virtual Reality in the Assembly Process

Once all of the components have been manufactured, the automobile still needs to be put together. However, this is a very time-consuming process that leaves little room for error. For example, how would you know if a particular position is ergonomically comfortable for the assembly workers, or will they get tired after working in such a position for too long? VR automotive can help us answer this question and many others. In fact, companies like Mercedes-Benz are already using virtual reality to simulate the assembly process and check all of the steps involved two years before production is scheduled to begin. They also use VR to check the setup of each assembly station to make sure all of the necessary tools have been accounted for.

Shopping for a New Car is Has Become More Convenient

Imagine that you are in the market for a new car and you find the one you like. You will then need to make a physical trip down to the dealership to see it in person to make sure that the car matches the description. Thanks to AR, all of this can be done within the comfort of your home. You will be able to view an augmented reality car, which will not be any different from the one at the dealership, and you can check out all of the details and features the car offers. In addition to this, let’s say that you would like to see how the car would look in a different color, change the material of the interiors, the rims, or any other detail. All of this is possible with a few taps on your smartphone.

In fact, AR can be used to attract people to the dealership with more personalized advertising. Whenever you look at a 2D car advertisement, you are not experiencing all of the features the car has to offer. However, car dealerships can include a QR code for the user to scan, and a model of the car will appear right in front of them. An AR development company can create a lightweight application that will work on just about any phone and increase the effectiveness of your advertising campaigns.

Think about all of the possibilities and conveniences this opens up for both dealerships and consumers. If you are a dealership, it is simply not possible to keep every single make and model of a particular car on the lot. AR eliminates this hurdle and allows interested customers to make pretty much any customization they need. Also, since the entire process is so much more convenient, consumers will be more inclined to shop for new cars that benefit the dealerships. Tech-savvy dealerships can also utilize virtual reality to give customers a virtual test drive of the vehicle. In fact, earlier this year, Abarth launched the first virtual test drive pack allowing customers to test drive their vehicles while sitting on their couches.

    Improving Repair and Maintenance

AR is allowing both car mechanics and everyday consumers to make repairs on their vehicles a lot easier. Often, complex repairs that a trained technician can only perform require the mechanic to stop working and research and compare scenarios to find the appropriate solution. This is very costly due to the amount of time required to repair. Fortunately, an augmented reality car app can project the instructions on top of the physical car engine to guide the mechanic. This is also very beneficial for regular people who would like to make simple repairs themselves but cannot understand the instructions. The app would empower car owners to make such repairs saving them additional time and money.
